DCAT Patches
Security at Millstone Power Station is more than a precaution—it’s a mission. To stay prepared for any potential threat, the station runs full-scale force-on-force exercises with the Dominion Composite Adversary Team (DCAT), a skilled group trained in weapons, explosives, and close-quarters combat.
I was first asked to design DCAT’s uniform patch in the fall of 2020 by DCAT leader Nicki Winters. The team requested that the design include a skull, the radioactive symbol, and the phrases 'Millstone DCAT' and 'EST. 2005.'
In fall 2023, I was once again asked to design the DCAT patch, this time by Sergeant Richard Elton. I was encouraged to explore several creative directions. He was particularly interested in incorporating a skull but was undecided between a human or a wolf. He also wanted to include nuclear symbolism, so I experimented with different background elements and added a gas mask motif. Since he was unsure about the color palette, I presented a range of options for consideration.
